Lopez Island (Day 4... the last day)

The last day on the island we packed everything up and headed out to Spencer Spit.  I had been wanting to go to the spit, everything I read about it made it sound like a really neat place.  I don't think it really lived up to all the hype it got.  Sure it was a nice park but I didn't think it was nearly as nice as Iceberg point.  It might be that I wasn't as fond of it because it was far busier then the other places we went.  The day was beautiful, the spit was nice and I found a couple caches here.

After going to the spit we still had quite a bit of time before we had to be at the ferry so we stopped off at Odlin Park.  We didn't really go see much of the park, but we did enjoy the beach.  We made PB&J and sat at the picnic table enjoying the sun and the beautiful view.  After lunch Richard did some resume work and I wandered the beach collecting sea glass and taking pictures of various things.  Then it was time for the ferry ride home.  I had a great vacation and anniversary.  It was very relaxing and very needed!

Lopez Island (Day 3)

Once again it was another late start to the day.  But then again, I was up fairly late reading the night before.  I got up, made eggs with cheese and a piece of toast.  Richard ran down to the library to use the WiFi and I listened to Vivaldi, read my bible chapters for the day and more of Breaking Dawn. 

After Richard got back from the library we went to Agate Beack and Iceberg point.  I really enjoyed wandering around Icebery point.  We saw a couple seals out on a rock and some really neat looking goose neck barnacles.  The cache here was a multi so it brought us all around Iceberg point, this was by far my favorite spot we went to.  The moss hanging from the trees made me think of a fairy wonderland or something of the sorts.  As we headed back to the car we scared a deer, thankfully it ran away from us and not at us.  We have seen quite a few deer on the island and are yet to get a picture of one.  Funny the way that works sometime.

Next we headed to Sharkreef where we found an ostercatcher and quite a few seals.  We stayed there for awhile listening to the birds and the waves crashing on the rocks.  There was a neat lighthouse you can see from here but it was kind of far away so I don't think I was able to get a good picture of it.  We also watched some bird going under the water over and over and coming up with a big mouthfull of fish each time.  I love to just sit and watch nature, it is just so relaxing and peaceful.

On the way back to the cabin we decided it was still a little early to head in so we stopped at the Upright Channel beach access again where we took some more ferry pictures and did some more beach combing.

We had speghetti for dinner again tonight, then I took a nice hot shower and relaxed listening to Mozart and writing this.  Next I'll read a little more Breaking Dawn and get to sleep.  Sadly tomorrow is our last day here so I should probably get up and packed at a decent time.

Lopez Island (Day 2)

I slept in today so we didn't get all that much accomplished really, but this vacation is supposed to be relaxing so that's okay.  After waking I had some cereal, straightened my hair, did the sudoku in the weekly paper that we were given when we checked in and failed miserably at the crossword puzzle.  I really just don't think my mind works the way cross word puzzles are made.

After finally getting ready for the day we went and parked in the library parking lot (they have free WiFi 24/7) and I watched the noon church service online.  I love that they have live services online!  We then headed back to the cabin for PB&J sandwichs for lunch.

After lunch we finally headed out for our first real adventure of the day, deciding to go to the furthest away place first.  So we headed out to the Watmough perserve.  We wandered the little beach and took the smaller north trail back to the parking lot to find a cache on the way.  We enjoyed listening to the hummingbirds buzz around in the roses, the red wing blackbirds in the cat tails and saw a few chipmunks scurrying around.  Found the cache, and some animal bones not to far from there, looked like part of a deer probably.  There was also a neat cave type thing made out of rocks.  We took lots of pictures.  I then realized that the other cache in this park meant going back towards the beach so we headed down the awesome tunnel like trail again.

We followed the little trail to the second cache, took lots of pictures.  It was so beautiful out there.  We went a little ways past the cache and found a tiny little beach with tide pools on the rocks.  I saw tons of hermet crabs, a tiny fish, chiton and even a few sea anenomes.  Then it was back to the car and on to the next vista.

Colville point is a very small little land area with a great view.  I hear when the weather is good you can see the Olympic mountains, to bad it was overcast.  But it was still so beautiful!  I loved sitting there listening to the waves crass on the rocks and the birds singing.  The cache here was located by a really awesome tree, hopefully one fo my pictures turns out.

Next we went to check out Blackie Brady Park, it was listed on the beach combers guide as a favorite (and there was a cache there, surprise).  This was probably my least favorite beach we have been to so far, the view out was pretty much across the little bay at some very nice houses.  We did manage to find a few very nice green glass pieces though.  And we beach combed for a little while we were able to watch a hummingbird chase a king fisher, that was quite amusing to see.

We were both pretty tired and hungry by the time we left that beach so we headed back to the cabin and had burritos for dinner.  Richard slept and I listened to classical music, read my bible chapters for the day and more of Breaking Dawn and then headed to bed for the night.

Lopez Island (Day 1)

As always I didn't start the day quite as intended, no surprise there.  But we did make the ferry with no problem what so ever.  I had only printed out one cache at the anacortes ferry dock, but we had lots of time, I supposed I should have printed more.  We stopped at the food place at the terminal and I had a yogurt cup with fruit and granola for breakfast.  I also got a hot chai tea after seeing that they used Oregon Chai which is the kind I like best!

The ferry ride was nice and quiet, actually it really was not all that quiet at all now that I think about it.  There was some kid crying most of the way, but I had my ipod and listened to classical music so I didn't hear most of that.

When we got to Lopez we got off the ferry and went straight to the village to enjoy the Saturday Market.  There were lots of neat island crafts at the market and not much in the way of produce or flowers like I would have expected for a market.  The thing that caught my eye was necklaces and other crafts made out of sea glass.  I'm thinking I want to try making some things so now I have to work at noticing the glass when beach combing.  I decided to have a crepe from the crepe stand there, I got one that had fresh organic strawberries and lemon curd.  So yummy!

We went and checked into the cozy cabin after that.  Bill was super nice and even gave us homemade brownies (which were delicious!).  Looks like my eatting better might not go to well this vacation.  The cabin is fairly small, very cozy and very secluded feeling.  It was just right for the weekend.  After checking in we sat around listening to the birds and talking about where life is taking us right now.

We then walked down to the Upright Channel picinic area and beach access.  It was the closest park to where we were staying and my favorite for beach combing.  I did a couple caches there, beach combed and took quite a few pictures of the ferries.  They go by so closely.  I collected some sea glass and shells and enjoyed the beautiful weather we were having.  I saw a couple deer on the beach and barely was able to fight the urge to run away.  I did end up running up the beach, but only to tell Richard they were down there so he could take a few pictures.  Apparently my running and yelling at Richard scared them because they were long gone when we got back down there.  We walked back to the cabin. 

I can't get over how friendly the people on the island are.  Everyone waves as they drive by, say hello when they pass you on a trail.  It's really nice, I could see myself living a life like that.

We then decided to go in to the Red Apple and buy some food so we had things to eat for our trip.  We got back to the cabin and I made speghetti and sour dough toast in the toaster oven.  After that I wrote this up and Richard slept.  He's been having some pretty bad allergies, I'm sure glad mine seem to be doing better then normal this year.

After that I read my bible chapters for the day, read some more in Breaking Dawn and headed to bed early so we could enjoy another adventure tomorrow.
